The OR BUDS (Better Understanding During Surgery) program offers emotional support to parents and families as their child undergoes surgery or a medical procedure. Parents and caregivers whose own children have had surgery provide support to others as their child prepares for surgery. The OR BUDS support the patient’s family during pre-surgery preparations and anesthesia induction. In addition, OR BUDS follow up with the family as surgery progresses.  With the support of OR BUDS, the nursing and medical staff can focus on the child while our trained OR BUDS focus on parent-care.

Compassionate caregivers who want to use their own personal experiences to support others going through challenging times are great candidates to participate in the OR BUDS program.  Participating individuals have been processed, trained and oriented under the umbrella of our Volunteer Services Program to ensure all compliance standards are met.
