MCGHealth Regional Perinatal Center

The Perinatal Center at MCGHealth aims to make each pregnancy and birth a memorable and joyful experience for families. Physicians, certified nurse-midwifes and the staff work together to provide care, support, education, information and individualized attention for each family. They work through family caregiver partnerships to provide a seamless, supportive continuum of quality care prior to conception and before, during and after birth.

For expectant mothers, the center offers prenatal care and other resources including social services, nutritional information, community resources and perinatal case management. They also offer childbirth and early parenting education. Information on breast-feeding, baby care, infant CPR and sibling relationships is available.

For delivering mothers, the center allows access to a variety of health caregivers including certified nurse midwives. Each woman’s labor is different, and the center strives to provide the highest level of comfort and ease possible.

After the birth of a baby, the perinatal center provides a special kind of nursing called Mother-Baby Care. This type of nursing ensures that the mother, baby and family spend as much time together as possible. During the hospital stay, Mother-Baby Care allows mothers to learn as much as possible about their baby’s sleeping and feeding habits. The center also provides information on vaccinations, follow up care, health insurance and car seat safety.
