Augusta, GA - Barbara Meeks, Administrative Director of Pediatric Services at the Medical College of Georgia Children's Medical Center, has been selected to participate in Leadership Augusta.

Ms. Meeks began her career at MCG in 1987 as a Staff Nurse in the Newborn Nursery. Since then, she has served as a Nurse Educator for Pediatrics/Pediatric Intensive Care Units, Interim Director of Pediatric and Psychiatric Nursing, Nurse Manager for the Pediatric Medicine Unit and Director of Patient Care at the Children's Medical Center. She also served as Transition Coordinator at the new Children's Medical Center, overseeing necessary processes in the construction, furnishing and equipping of the facility.

Prior to joining the Children's Medical Center, she was a Staff Nurse in the Burn Unit and a Maternal/Child Float Nurse at Edward Sparrow Hospital in East Lansing, Mich., a Staff Nurse in the General Pediatric Unit at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va., a Staff/Charge Nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Ind. and a member of the faculty at the Indiana University School of Nursing Graduate Program.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Mich. Ms. Meeks also attended Indiana University Graduate Nursing Pediatric Program, received a Master of Science degree in Nursing with a major in Developmental and Critical Care Pediatrics, and completed a one-year Nursing Fellowship in Developmental Pediatrics.

She is a member of the Georgia Nurses Association, the Society of Pediatric Nurses, Chair of the Emergency Medical Services for Children Region 6 Advisory Council, a board member of Ronald McDonald House, President of the Augusta Chapter, Philanthropic Educational Organization and a member of the Augusta Chapter of Ladies of Harley. She serves as Sunday School Secretary at Wesley United Methodist Church.
