MS Walk Returns to Augusta

Augusta, Ga. - The Augusta MS Center, a collaboration of MCG Health System and Walton Rehabilitation Hospital, presents MS Walk 2003 on Saturday, March 15, 2003, at Lake Olmstead. Registration is at 8 a.m., with the walk beginning at 9 a.m. from GreenJackets Stadium.
The National MS Society - Georgia Chapter is excited about the return of the MS Walk to Augusta, which was made possible by the dedication and support of people like Dr. Mary Hughes, Director of the Augusta MS Center and a neurologist at MCG Health System.

"This walk is truly an event that could never have come about without the support of the patients at the Augusta MS Center," said Dr. Hughes. "For families, friends and others who wish to help fight the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis, it's a wonderful opportunity to come together and raise funds to support research and programs to assist those living with MS."

The 5K (3.1 mile) walk circles Lake Olmstead and will feature food, entertainment and more. "Our community has truly come together to support this event," said Dr. Hughes. "We're pleased at the generosity of our local companies in sponsoring MS Walk 2003."

Sponsors for the event include MCG Health System, Walton Rehabilitation Hospital, The Augusta Chronicle, WAGT-Channel 26, Kicks 99, Lite 98, First Choice Medical, Procter & Gamble and Communication Support Services, Inc.

Walkers and volunteers are still needed. If you're interested in participating in MS Walk 2003, call 1-800-FIGHT MS (1-800-344-4867), 24 hours a day, or visit http://www.nmssga.org/.

One of the National MS Society's largest fund-raising events, MS Walk 2003 takes place at more than 700 sites across the United States. Proceeds go toward research, education and programs for the third of a million Americans living with MS. Since 1991, the National MS Society MS Walk has raised more than $275 million.
