In recognition of National SAFE KIDS Week (May 1-8), SAFE KIDS of East Central Georgia, led by the MCG Children’s Medical Center, presents a Beach Safety Party on May 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fort Gordon Recreation Area at Clarks Hill off Washington Road. The event is free and open to the public.

The theme of this year’s event is drowning prevention. Parents are encouraged to bring their children and learn more about safety in and around the water. Games and prizes geared toward water safety will be offered, and hot dogs, chips and a beverage are available for the first 100 who attend.

SAFE KIDS of East Central Georgia has also partnered with the Girl Scouts of Augusta to present five public swim areas with life jacket lockers fitted with six life jackets of various sizes that will be made available for day use. The first of these lockers will be presented at the Fort Gordon Recreation Area during the Beach Safety Party. Other locations that will receive the lockers will be designated later in the summer.
