THIRTEEN MCG PHYSICIANS NAMED TO “AMERICA’S TOP DOCTORS” LISTJuly 28, 2004Augusta, GA Thirteen MCG physicians have been selected for inclusion in “America’s Top Doctors,” a national patient reference guide published by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. The book, which identifies the top 1 percent of physicians in the nation, helps patients find the top specialists in any given medical field.

The 13 MCG physicians, the majority of whom have been on this distinguished list for the past three years and all of whom have been on this list for the past two years, are:

Dr. Robert J. Adams, Neurology.
Dr Adams is a Presidential Distinguished Chair, Regents Professor of Neurology and Professor of Pediatrics. He is recognized for his work in treating cerebrovascular disease, and researching stroke prevention and the neurological complications of sickle cell anemia.

Dr. Walton W. Curl, Orthopaedics.
Dr. Curl is Chairman, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. His interest is in orthopaedic sports medicine, and knee and shoulder problems in adults.

Dr. Thomas R. Gadacz, General Surgery.
Dr. Gadacz is the Charbonnier Professor of Surgery and Surgical Residency Program Director. His interests include gastrointestinal and minimally invasive surgery and research into biliary disease.

Dr. David C. Hess, Neurology.
Dr. Hess is Chairman and Professor of Neurology. His interests include the treatment of acute ischemic stroke and research into stroke prevention, and ‘cell therapy’ for stroke.

Dr. Ronald W. Lewis, Urology.
Dr. Lewis is Professor of Surgery and Chief of Urology. He is recognized for his work in the treatment of male infertility and erectile dysfunction, and research into malignant and benign prostate disease.

Dr. C. Lawrence Lutcher, Hematology.
Dr. Lutcher is Professor of Medicine and Director of the Adult Hemophilia Center. His interests include the diagnosis and treatment of bleeding disorders and hemophilia-related research.

Dr. Bruce MacFadyen, General Surgery.
Dr. MacFadyen is the Distinguished Moretz-Mansberger Chair in Surgery. He is recognized for his work in gastrointestinal surgery, minimally invasive surgery and new technologies.

Dr. Russell Moores, Oncology.
Dr. Moores is Professor of Hematology and Oncology. His interests include the treatment of a wide variety of hematologic and oncologic disorders. He is recognized for his work in the pain management and palliative care of oncology patients.

Dr. Julian Nussbaum, Ophthalmology.
Dr. Nussbaum is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology. He is recognized for his work in the treatment of diabetic eye disease, age-related macular degeneration, and other degenerative and vascular disorders of the retina.

Dr. Dennis R. Ownby, Pediatric Allergy and Immunology.
Dr. Ownby is Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine and Head of the Section of Allergy and Immunology. His clinical interests are asthma and food allergies in children and adults. He has been recognized for his work on factors that contribute to the risk of children developing asthma and allergies.

Dr. Daniel W. Rahn, Rheumatology.
Dr. Rahn is President of the Medical College of Georgia and Professor of Medicine. His clinical interests include the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease, connective tissue disease and rheumatoid arthritis.

Dr. Steve J. Schwab, Medicine.
Dr. Schwab is Chairman and Regents’ Professor of Medicine/Nephrology. His clinical interests are chronic kidney failure, dialysis and acute renal failure.

Dr. Kapil Sethi, Neurology.
Dr. Sethi is Professor of Neurology and Director of the Movement Disorders Program. His clinical interests include treating movement disorders, the use of botulinum toxin injections, and research into new drugs for Parkinson’s disease and restless legs syndrome.
