MCG Health Inc.Transfers More than $7.5 Million to Medical College of GeorgiaOctober 20, 2005Augusta, GA Check presentation

MCG Health, Inc. today transferred more than $7.5 million to the Medical College of Georgia during the MCG Health, Inc. Board of Directors annual meeting. MCG Health, Inc. Board Chairman Don Leebern, Jr. and President and CEO Don Snell presented a check totaling $7,589,957.67 to the Medical College of Georgia.

“Every year since its inception, MCG Health, Inc. has allocated approximately 43 percent of its margin to the Medical College of Georgia to support academic development and research by our world-class clinicians,” said Snell. “This is a relationship that has benefited our entire community. As an academic medical center, we provide not only a training ground for future physicians but also the opportunity for patients and families throughout the Southeast to experience the latest treatments and technologies.”

"This year, MCG and the MCG Health System have continued to experience unprecedented activity in essentially every aspect of our tripartite mission of education, discovery and service," said Dr. Daniel W. Rahn, MCG President. "With the support of our faculty, our employees, our community, our state and each other, I am confident our strategies to reduce the burden of illness will continue to thrive."

Academic medical centers have three primary missions-patient care, education and research. To carry out these missions, academic medical centers must provide a full range of clinical services and maintain the infrastructure to foster education and research.

Over the past five years, MCG Health, Inc. has transferred more than $50 million to the Medical College of Georgia.

MCG Health System is composed of three separate organizations -- MCG Health, Inc. and the clinical services offered by the faculty employees of the Medical College of Georgia and the members of the MCG Physicians Practice Group Foundation. The physicians of MCG Health System are community physicians, faculty employees of the Medical College of Georgia, or employees of the MCG Physicians Practice Group Foundation, not employees of MCG Health, Inc. MCG Health, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation operating the MCG Medical Center, MCG Children’s Medical Center, the MCG Sports Medicine Center, MCG Ambulatory Care Center, the Georgia Radiation Therapy Center and related clinical facilities and services. MCG Health, Inc. was formed to support the research and education mission of the Medical College of Georgia and to build the economic growth of the CSRA, the state of Georgia and the Southeast by providing an environment for faculty employees of the Medical College of Georgia and the MCG Physicians Practice Group Foundation and community physicians to deliver the highest level of primary and specialty health care.
