John Mateka, FAHRMM, has been named Vice President of Supply Chain Management at MCG Health, Inc. He is responsible for the overall strategic direction and tactical execution of all aspects of supply chain operations, including procurement, distribution, customer service, accounts payable and facility-based business and people processes/transactions. Mateka is the former Vice President of Materials Management at Mercy Healthcare System-Catholic Health East in Miami, Fla., and has more than 20 years’ diversified health care management experience. He completed an Executive Program in Healthcare Administration at Ohio State University and also holds a master of Business Administration from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. He is a fellow of the Association for Healthcare Resource and Materials Management, the largest health care supply chain association, and served as the organization’s president in 2004. He is also an author and presenter of health care supply chain topics. "In fiscal year 2005, we saved $3.3 million in operating costs through the implementation of a supply chain optimization project. The importance of supply chain management is underscored by the creation of this new position to oversee purchasing and materials management. Mr. Mateka is recognized as one of the top materials management professionals in the nation and we are pleased to have him on our team," said Don Snell, President and CEO. "I look forward to working with Mr. Mateka," said Tom Kelly, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. "He has broad and deep experience in materials management, centralized purchasing, surgical materials, stockroom/shipping and receiving, bio-medical and asset management and inventory control, among other areas. I am confident that the programs he will initiate will facilitate savings and standardization." MCG Health System is composed of three separate organizations -- MCG Health, Inc. and the clinical services offered by the faculty employees of the Medical College of Georgia and the members of the MCG Physicians Practice Group Foundation. The physicians of MCG Health System are community physicians, faculty employees of the Medical College of Georgia, and employees of the MCG Physicians Practice Group Foundation, not employees of MCG Health Inc. MCG Health, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation operating the MCG Medical Center, MCG Children’s Medical Center, the MCG Sports Medicine Center, MCG Ambulatory Care Center, the Georgia Radiation Therapy Center and related clinical facilities and services. MCG Health, Inc. was formed to support the research and education mission of the Medical College of Georgia and to build the economic growth of the CSRA, the state of Georgia and the Southeast by providing an environment for faculty employees of the Medical College of Georgia and the MCG Physicians Practice Group Foundation and community physicians to deliver the highest level of primary and specialty health care.
