J. Roy Rowland, M.D. of Laurens County has been appointed by Gov. Sonny Perdue to join the Board of Directors of MCG Health, Inc. for a three-year term.

Dr. Rowland served in the U.S. House of Representatives for 12 years and in the Georgia House of Representatives for six years. An honor graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, he practiced family medicine in Dublin, Ga. for 28 years. He currently is Director of Utilization Management at the Middle Georgia Community Mental Health Center.

Dr. Rowland succeeds board member Dr. Marilyn Carter, Augusta Associates of Internal Medicine and Rheumatology.

MCG Health System is composed of three separate organizations -- MCG Health, Inc. and the clinical services offered by the faculty employees of the Medical College of Georgia and the members of the MCG Physicians Practice Group Foundation.
