Have you lost somebody who was really close to you? Are your parents going through a divorce? Are you confused about your sexuality? Under significant stress about grades or sports? Coping with health problems? Whatever is going on, a significant, stressful life event is something we all can learn to deal with in healthy ways. If you are feeling hopeless or overwhelmed, there is help out there for you.

If you are having a difficult time coping with something very sad, confusing or scary--reach out for help. Trying to get through a tough time on you own can be extremely lonely and difficult. It can help to talk to others about your worries and the situations you are facing. You might consider finding a professional you can talk to. People who are trained in helping others deal with loss or stress, such as a school counselor or therapist, can guide you and provide support. There are also support groups with other people going through similar situations. People often find comfort in their spirituality or religion when faced with tough times. You might talk to your pastor, rabbi or other spiritual leader and see what support and ideas they can offer you.

If you feel totally confused about your emotions, you might want to talk to your parents about what is going on. Especially if you are experiencing really serious emotions like depression or suicidal thoughts, your parents should know so that they can arrange for you to get the help you need.
