Because there are children like Lauren
Weighing 10 pounds, 14 ounces at birth, most people would think that Lauren would be a healthy, bouncing baby girl. But immediately after birth, Lauren experienced a rapid heart rate and began having difficulty breathing. After spending three weeks in the hospital so that she would be able to eat on her own, Lauren was sent to the pediatric cardiology specialists at MCG Children’s Medical Center. There she was diagnosed with a thick heart muscle. After several heart catheterizations, Lauren received a pacemaker. Today, this 16-year-old high school student has had her second pacemaker removed and still sees the MCG pediatric cardiologists once a year.
Because of Lauren, and the many other children born with heart defects, MCG Children’s Medical Center provides world-class pediatric heart services. We are here to help children of all ages get a healthy start on life.
