MCGHealth Breast Health Services are a unique feature of MCG Health System. Through this specialized screening and treatment initiative, patients with benign and cancerous breast conditions may undergo mammography, physical examination, diagnostic and therapeutic surgery, counseling and multidisciplinary treatment of malignancy. Treatment is always tailored to a patient's stage, age, and individual desires and the patient is encouraged to remain in the care of her primary care physician throughout treatment. A breast cancer support group and an 'I Can Cope' cancer support group are available for patients.
Active research to find new and improved methods of treating breast cancer is an ongoing focus of the center. The center also participates in national clinical trials such as the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP) and the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG).
