MCGHealth Heart Transplant Program

Each year more and more people receive transplants and are living longer after transplants than ever before.  While 2,192 people in the U.S. received a heart transplant in 2006, only 45 of those were performed in Georgia.  That is because up until now, the number of hospitals providing heart transplant services in the state was very limited. As a result, many donor organs were exported out of state.

That is about to change.  MCGHealth Cardiovascular Center is pleased to announce our new Heart Transplant Program.  Our team has spent much of the past year building infrastructure and capabilities to provide care for patients with advanced heart failure as well as those undergoing heart transplantation.

Now there is hope for patients who may be a candidate for heart transplantation – and it’s close to home.  To learn more about our new Heart Transplant Program or to refer a patient, please call 706-721-1109 or our 24-hour Transplant Hotline at 1-888-543-2780.  You may also e-mail heart_transplant@mcg.edu.
